Our read
Written Oct 17, from his facts through last season
The IR listing settles this one. He has been on it since before week 5 of 2026, he plays nothing while he sits there, and the board ranks him under every available tight end. Whatever he was, he is not a functioning option right now.
Even before the listing, the season told you plenty. Four games, 0.4 points a game, two targets, one catch. We expected 2.3 points a game from him over 14 contests, and he was already coming in under that pace. He did not play in week 5 of 2026 either, and the bye waits until week 13 of 2026, so there is no near date to circle even in theory.
In 2025 with Chicago he played 7 games and topped out at 2.1 points in week 17 of 2025, never once clearing a weekly median. The usage behind it was just as bare: a 25.4% snap share, TE91 among 137 qualifying tight ends, and a 1.1% target share, TE110 among that same group. Zero red-zone touches and zero touches inside the ten, ranked TE104 and TE87 among 126 qualifying tight ends. That is a blocking specialist with no passing-game role, and the change to Baltimore has not altered it. Mark Andrews and Zay Flowers eat the targets here, Andrews took 17% of BAL's targets in 2025, and Smythe sits second among BAL tight ends only on paper.
There is a deeper history here if you want it, 71.6 points in 2023 at TE32, but he has not been within shouting distance of that since. If he is somehow holding a spot on your roster, release him the moment you need the slot. There will be nothing to see even when the IR listing resolves.
