Our read
Written Oct 19, from his facts through last season
The injury tag nobody planned on landed before week 6 of 2026, and that is where Hurts sits now: on IR, playing no games and ranked on our board below every quarterback you can actually start. The five weeks before it were the quiet part of the story. He scored 16.0 points a game against the 18.0 preseason pace we set for him, with week 1 of 2026 at 24.72 and three of the next four under 14.
The worrying detail is accuracy, not volume. He is completing passes 2.4 percentage points below expectation on 154 tracked attempts, QB29 among 35 quarterbacks, and he is pressured on 27% of his dropbacks while blitzed on 39% of all 179 charted dropbacks. Last year the rushing and red-zone work carried him: 21 red-zone touches, best among 64 qualifying quarterbacks, and QB7 overall at 301 points. Through five weeks he has 23 carries and 107 rush yards, 9 touchdowns but nothing in the receiving column, and a new play caller in Sean Mannion has not unlocked anything yet.
The case has not changed as much as the numbers have. He is 28, he played 16 of 17 games in 2025, and our number for the season was 270 points. What would change the read is a return date and a rushing game that comes back with him. If you have an IR slot, hold him and wait for that. If you do not, you are carrying a player who cannot appear in your lineup, and that is a roster problem, not a talent one.
