Our read
Written Oct 17, from his facts through last season
He has been on the injury report since before week 3 of 2026, and this list is season-long: while he is on it he plays nothing, and our board ranks him behind every available quarterback. That alone decides this. The 2.8 points we projected for his whole 2026 season, with zero expected games, were never a real forecast of production. They were a placeholder.
Even healthy he was never in the picture. Stafford runs this offense and McVay calls the plays, and Caldwell is listed fourth among LAR quarterbacks, behind even Ty Simpson. A 23-year-old undrafted rookie in that spot is a practice squad story, not a fantasy one. No headline has touched him all season.
The situation he would be stepping into does not help him either. This is an offense that won 12 games in 2025 with the veteran in place, and it ran one of the quicker tempos in the league at 32.3 seconds a play with passes on 63% of situation-neutral plays. None of that machinery is making room for a fourth quarterback to see the field. Even the schedule shape, 10 of their games indoors, only matters to a passer who is actually starting, which he is not.
He went undrafted in real life and carried no ADP before the season, which tells you the whole league saw the same thing. We put his realistic middle range at -2 to 8 points, and injuries are what drag the low end of the full span down to zero. Drop him and use the open seat on a quarterback who can help you this week.
