Our read
Written Sep 8, from his facts through last season
The first thing to know is he did not dress for 6 healthy weeks last season even when available, and he still only saw a 15.1% snap share when he did play. That ranked TE111 among 126 qualifying tight ends, and it is the whole story of what he is in this offense. The 4.8 points a game and the TE55 finish in points are what that role produces. He never cleared 15 points in any of his 10 weeks, and his best week was an 11-spot back in week 6.
The scoring role is real but tiny. A quarter of his touches came inside the red zone and he got 6 red-zone touches and 4 looks inside the ten, which is why he scored at all on 19 total touches and 168 yards. Average depth of target was 5.0 yards, so he is a point-of-attack guy who needs to fall into the end zone to matter. At 31.8 years old in year nine, with Zac Taylor back calling the same plays, nothing suggests the role grows.
Availability is the other half. We expect about 3 games, with a realistic range of 0 to 9 once injury risk is in, and he has missed time in each of the last two seasons. Our number has him at 2 points for the season, with most outcomes between -1 and 6. Drafters have him around pick 379, but that ADP is generous for a guy with no listed role and this kind of attendance record. Let him go entirely and take a flier on anyone with a clearer path to snaps.
