Our read
Written Oct 19, from his facts through last season
Lance did not play in weeks 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of 2026, and he has been on IR since before week 5 of 2026, so while he sits there he cannot score a point and his season total stays at zero. Even the healthiest read of him, a return after his bye in week 7 of 2026, leaves him a backup to Justin Herbert behind one of the run-heaviest situations in the league at 34.1 seconds a play last year. He is listed second among LAC quarterbacks, and that is where he has sat in practice too, with a 39.5% snap share last season that ranked QB60 among 81 qualifying quarterbacks.
And the weeks he does play have never been worth anything. He appeared in 4 games in each of the last two seasons, averaging 3.4 points a game in 2025 with a season high of 8.34 back in week 18 of 2025. Zero of his four weeks beat the position's median, and he never once cleared 15 points, with his worst coming in at 0.76 in week 13 of 2025. Mike McDaniel taking the play caller job this year is a new wrinkle, but nothing in the first five weeks suggests it changes his standing.
Our preseason number was 21 points for the full season, built on expecting just 4 games of him, and the low end of that range assumed injuries, which is now exactly what has happened. He is worth nothing to a roster right now. Cut him and carry a quarterback who can actually take a snap after your bye.
