Our read
Written Oct 17, from his facts through last season
Four games into 2026 Franks has zero carries, zero targets, zero catches and zero points, and the bye in week 5 of 2026 is already behind him. He was never going to matter here. Carolina lists him fifth at tight end behind Tommy Tremble, Mitchell Evans, Darren Waller and Ja'Tavion Sanders, and 2025 in Atlanta gave him a 1.4% snap share and a 0.0% target share across 10 games, above the position's weekly median in none of them. That is the shape of his whole recent career.
The availability story is fine, oddly. No injury designation since before week 1 of 2026, and in 2025 all 7 weeks he sat were healthy scratches. The problem was never his body. It is that two coaching staffs in a row have looked at a 28-year-old former quarterback converted to tight end and decided he is a fifth option. Brad Idzik kept the play calling from last season, so nothing about the scheme changes the math, and the targets ahead of him are locked up anyway: Tetairoa McMillan took 25% and Xavier Legette 15% of Carolina's 2025 targets, 41% between them.
Our preseason number was 7 points for 2026, about half a point a game over 13 expected games, and he has scored 0.0 a game so far, so even the modest track he was on is gone. The production has never been there either, 2.2 points over 9 games in 2024, TE97 among 111. There is no downside case to weigh because there is no case at all. He should not be on a roster in a league of this size. Release him and grab whoever is leading the waiver headlines this week.
