Our read

Jaylin Lane sits on injured reserve on Sunday's report, so he does not play in week 6 of 2026 and there is no number to chase against the 49ers on Monday night. Washington's 22.3-point expected score in San Francisco was never going to reach a guy listed seventh among Commanders receivers anyway, behind McLaurin, Diggs, Antonio Williams and Luke McCaffrey, and his 1.1 PPR points a game over four games tells you he wasn't filling a lineup spot before the injury. Keep him stashed where he is and find a fill-in for the week.
Written Oct 18, from his facts through last season
The IR designation decides everything here. Lane has been on it since before week 5 of 2026, he plays no game while he sits on that list, and the board ranks him below every available receiver in Washington. Before the injury, the season had already told us what he was: 1.1 points a game over four weeks, two targets, two catches, 25 yards, and a 0-point week in both week 2 and week 4 of 2026.
Even if he got healthy tomorrow, the path has not moved. McLaurin, Diggs, and Antonio Williams sit ahead of him on the depth chart, and Deebo Samuel Sr. plus McLaurin took 48% of the targets in this offense last season. Receivers in his spot saw their points a game fall 0.9 on average from one season to the next, which tracks with everything else here. In 2025 he ran a 37.0% snap share with an 8.2% target share, turned 2 red-zone touches into nothing, and beat the position's weekly median just 4 times in 15 games. He never cleared 15 points in any of those weeks, and the role was never going to widen behind the group ahead of him.
Our preseason number was 58 points for the full season, built on 13 expected games, and a quarter of the schedule is gone with almost nothing produced and one week missed. With his bye in week 7 of 2026 still ahead and no return date, there is no stretch on the calendar worth a roster spot. We would let him go and use the space on someone who can actually take a snap this week.
