Our read
Written Oct 17, from his facts through last season
The 2025 season ran on his legs, and the legs are gone. Last year he turned 10 red-zone touches, QB6 among 64, into 17.3 points a game and QB18 among 81. Through five weeks of 2026 he has 14 carries, 25 rush yards and zero receiving production, and he is sitting at 9.5 points a game. Four touchdowns and 1,021 pass yards are not enough to make up for a rushing profile that produced nothing.
The passing is not saving him either. He is completing 1.7 percentage points under expectation across 176 tracked attempts, QB26 among 35, and defenses are blitzing him on 32% of charted dropbacks. Our projection before the season was 189 points, and the pace we set, 13.5 points a game over the 14 games we expected, sat 6.1 points below the usual output of quarterbacks drafted where he went, injuries pooled in. So even that modest hope assumed more than what he is giving.
The history argues against waiting for a turnaround. Ten weeks missed to injury or a reserve list in 2023, and 2024 bottomed out at QB27 among 69. Anthony Richardson is listed second in Indianapolis, which is a real bench pressure if the slide continues. Shane Steichen and Jim Bob Cooter are back, so no scheme change is coming to rescue this. We would cut him for a streaming quarterback with a pulse. If your league is deep and thin on options, holding one more week is defensible, but the spot is worth more than he is.
