Our read
Written Oct 19, from his facts through last season
The story with Chip Trayanum is not talent or opportunity, it is that five weeks of 2026 have gone by and he has not played a single down. He did not play in weeks 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of 2026. There is no injury designation to point to either, nothing since before the season opened in 2026, so the Jets are choosing this. Fifth on their depth chart, behind Andrew Beck and Breece Hall at the top, Braelon Allen second, Isaiah Davis third, an undrafted rookie does not climb that ladder mid-season.
He came into the league undrafted this spring, which is why we never tracked a preseason role for him and why our projection was a token 3 points for the whole year, built on expecting him to appear in about one game. Twenty-four years old, first season, with Aaron Glenn and Tanner Engstrand running the same offense they ran in 2025. Nothing about that setup suggests a surprise promotion.
The middle range of outcomes on him still runs from about zero to 7 points, and injuries are what pull the low end down, but honestly he is tracking under even that because healthy scratch weeks score nothing. Even the high tail only reaches 15, and that would take an injury somewhere above him and a real role overnight. He has a bye in week 13 of 2026 still ahead, so there is no calendar relief coming either. There is nothing here worth holding a roster spot for. Drop him and use the spot on a running back who is actually seeing the field.
