Our read
Written Oct 17, from his facts through last season
The number that actually matters for Stidham is 0 for 5: every week of 2026 has passed and he has not played in any of them. Here is the part people miss. Those were not injured weeks. There is no injury designation on him at all, and there has not been one since before week 1 of 2026. He is simply a healthy backup who does not see the field, and that was the shape of 2024 and 2023 too, two games each, both seasons fully healthy.
The last time he produced anything was 2023, 26.6 points across two appearances. Since then his yards per touch have slid from 1.3 to -1, and his lone game in 2025 scored -0.1. Even in that lone appearance he played just 6.3% of Denver's snaps, and he never scored above the weekly median for quarterbacks. Denver still runs a lot of pass, 58% of situation-neutral plays, and Payton calls the plays himself, but none of that flows to the second quarterback on the roster while Nix stays upright. Our preseason number was 19 points over the 3 games we expected him to play, about 6.3 a game, and even that modest line assumed appearances he has not made.
There is no scenario where he helps a roster this year unless Nix gets hurt, and waiting on that is a waste of a spot through a week 10 of 2026 bye that is still ahead. Pick him up only if you are stashing for an injury in Denver, and otherwise move on.
