Our read
Written Oct 19, from his facts through last season
Three games, zero touchdowns, and 409 pass yards. That is the whole 2026 season so far, and the 4.1 points a game he is averaging is doing its best to dress it up. Week 2 of 2026 gave you 2.16 points, week 4 of 2026 gave you 8.82, and week 5 of 2026 fell right back to 1.18. There is nothing here that survives a start in a one-quarterback league.
The role has not moved. He is listed second in Chicago behind Caleb Williams, and the two weeks he sat, weeks 1 and 3 of 2026, were healthy weeks he did not play, the same pattern as the 15 he sat through last season. He has no injury designation since before week 3 of 2026, so this is a depth chart fact, not a health one. Ben Johnson calls the plays himself and has not found a package for him.
The 2025 tape says the same thing, 3 points over 2 games, QB65 among 81 qualifying quarterbacks, and he finished above the position's weekly median in neither of them. There is one real signal in the data: teams blitzed him on 41% of his charted dropbacks through week 5 of 2026, because the 7 carries tell them he will not hurt them on the ground. The one thing he has done well under that pressure is throw accurately, +3.1 percentage points over expectation on 55 tracked attempts in weeks 4 and 5 of 2026, QB14 among 35 quarterbacks with 50 or more tracked attempts. None of it changes the role. And the case for holding him anywhere was already thin, 14 points was our number before the season over just 4 expected games. He is a cut in any league, even superflex.
