Our read
Written Sun 12:01 am Central, for week 6
Tay Martin sits on a bye this week, with Detroit idle in week 6 of 2026, so he scores nothing and cannot be started anywhere on your roster. His next game comes in week 7 at home against Green Bay, kicking off Sunday 3:25 pm Central. He's been scoreless through five games, listed fourth among the Lions' receivers behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Isaac TeSlaa. Cover his spot with a fill-in this week and keep him on your bench.
Written Oct 17, from his facts through last season
Five weeks of 2026, five games played, and the stat line reads zero across the board: no targets, no catches, no carries, no touchdowns. He is healthy and he is dressing, which means Detroit is simply choosing not to use him. Fourth among DET wideouts behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Isaac TeSlaa, he is behind three names the offense actually calls plays for.
The case before the season was already thin. He averaged 2.1 points a game in 2025 over just two appearances, and among players in his spot, points a game did rise 1.2 on average from one season to the next. But the room he landed in is crowded, and among players in that spot the average swing is a loss of 0.9 points a game from one year to the next. The change of teams, WAS to DET, put him behind St. Brown and Sam LaPorta, who took half of Detroit's targets in 2025 between them.
The arrow has been pointing down for two years. His target share fell from 7.7% in 2024 to 2.8% in 2025, and his yards per target dropped from 24.5 to 11.5 over the same span. Last season he saw zero red-zone touches, and his average depth of target was 9.0 yards, 149th among 223 qualifying receivers. The track record as a whole is three NFL seasons and three games played, with a single appearance in 2024 and two in 2025.
We gave him 24 points for the full season, built on the 8 games we expected him to play, and he is going to miss that mark by a mile even if he suddenly plays. He is not worth a roster spot on a team of any size. Release him and add a player with a live role.
