Our read
Written Sun 12:01 am Central, for week 6
Mike Evans is Questionable on Sunday's report, so his Monday night spot against Washington isn't settled yet. The published projection for week 6 of 2026 has him at 16 points in PPR scoring. The matchup backs a start if he's cleared: Washington allows 41 PPR points a game to receivers, 31st of 32 through week 5. San Francisco carries a 29.8-point expected score at home, and he just put up 24.3 PPR points at Seattle in week 5. Wait on his status before the Monday 7:15 pm Central kickoff, then start him if he plays.
Written Oct 19, from his facts through last season
San Francisco is throwing it deep to him, and that is the whole reason to keep him active. He owns 43% of the team's air yards through week 5 of 2026, seventh among 64 receivers, and week 5's 24.3 points show what happens when one of those lands. Three touchdowns on 34 targets backs it up. He is giving you more than where he went before the season, 14.9 a game against our preseason pace of 14.3.
The worry is the legs and the separation. He was tracked at 1.6 yards from the nearest defender on his targets, last among 57 receivers with enough tape, and minus-0.5 yards after the catch over expectation. That profile rarely holds up all season for a 33-year-old in year 13. Last year tells you what happens when it breaks: 8 games, 10.6 a game, a zero in week 7 of 2025, weeks 4 to 6 and 8 and 10 to 14 lost to injury. Our preseason number already built in the risk at 13 expected games and 186 points, so nothing has changed there.
The target room is the quiet drag. McCaffrey and Kittle took 45% of SF's targets last season, and among players in Evans' spot a crowded room has cost 0.9 points a game year over year. But the 23.1% target share he carried in 2025 plus this deep-ball role is a better setup than the shallow volume he got in Tampa, and players with his usage have added over 3 points a game the following year. Hold him, start him in week 6 of 2026, and watch the Q tag before his bye in week 8. If the deep targets dry up for two straight weeks, then you bench him.
