Our read
Written Oct 17, from his facts through last season
The tracking numbers are the case, and they are ugly. He has been pressured on 28% of his 175 dropbacks through week 5 of 2026, and blitzed on 25% of all 175 charted dropbacks, and when he does get a throw off, he is completing the ball 2.8 percentage points below expectation over 143 tracked attempts. That ranks QB30 among the 35 quarterbacks with 50 or more tracked attempts. For a quarterback we had QB8 before the season, that is the whole problem in two sentences.
The context softens it a little. Mike McDaniel is calling plays for him for the first time this year, and new systems have taken more than five weeks to click for better offenses than this. He has also missed nothing. Five games played, no injury designation since before week 1 of 2026, and a full 16 game season behind him in 2025 at 17.8 points a game. So this is not a body problem or an availability problem. It is an accuracy and protection problem, and both have been real: 10.7 points a game against our preseason pace of 17.4, with only five touchdowns on 937 passing yards.
Where that leaves you is a hold with a deadline. We put 261 points on him for the season, and that number assumed the 2025 version. If the completion number has not climbed back toward zero by around week 9 of 2026, we would stop defending the ranking. Until then, benching him for a waiver arm costs you more than riding this out.
