Our read
Written Oct 17, from his facts through last season
Woody Marks has the touchdown work, and that is the whole reason he is on a roster. Through weeks 1 to 5 of 2026 he is getting 31% of Houston's red-zone carries and targets in his games, and a third of the carries and targets inside the ten. That is RB21 and RB24 among backs with enough volume, real scoring access for a guy listed second behind David Montgomery. The trouble is turning it into points: 8.7 a game so far, two touchdowns, and week 1 of 2026 gave him just 5 points. Week 5 of 2026 was his best at 12.5, so maybe the arrow is pointed up.
The contact yardage is the ugly part. He is at 1.3 yards after contact a carry, RB48 among 53 backs with enough carries, and you can see it in the totals: 149 rush yards on 43 carries. He is not creating anything on his own, so the scoring chances have to come to him. With a third of the inside-ten work, they are. But if Montgomery takes even a bite of that share, Marks' case thins out fast.
Our number had him at 104 points for the season, and the preseason pace we set was 7.4 points a game over 14 expected games. He is running ahead of that through five weeks and has not missed a game, which matters for a rookie-year back in a committee. The concern is the ceiling: he cleared 15 points only 4 times in 2025, and 2026 has looked the same. We would hold him and start him as an RB3 or flex in week 6 of 2026, then watch the red-zone share after his bye in week 8 of 2026. If Montgomery starts swallowing those touches, drop him.
