Our read
Written Sun 12:01 am Central, for week 6
The Lions sit out week 6 of 2026 on a bye, so Vaki does not play and puts zero points on your board this week. Plug a live running back into that lineup spot for Sunday, then keep him for week 7 at home against the Packers. Even then his role is thin: second on Detroit's depth chart behind Jahmyr Gibbs, 2.9 PPR points a game through five weeks, no touchdowns, and RB91 in our rest-of-season order at 367 overall.
Written Oct 19, from his facts through last season
Nothing about Sione Vaki's first five weeks of 2026 suggests a change is coming. He has suited up every week, which is more than he managed in 2025, when he played 8 of 17 and missed weeks 1 to 2 and 4 to 7 of 2025. But playing and producing are different things. He carries 15 carries and 4 catches on the season, 0 touchdowns, and a best week of 4.7 points in week 3 of 2026. The 2.9 points a game he is averaging is fine for a fourth running back's workload and nothing more.
The usage is where the case dies. He has 1 of Detroit's 71 red-zone carries and targets through week 5 of 2026, and 0 of the 34 carries and targets inside the ten. Jahmyr Gibbs sits ahead of him and is not giving anything back. Dan Campbell and John Morton are back for another season, so we see no staff change coming to reorder this backfield. His 2024 yards per touch was 5.7, it fell to 4 in 2025, and there is no sign the efficiency is returning at 25 years old.
We set our preseason number at 16 points for the full 2026 season, and that already looks generous against a pace that lands well under it. The one modest mercy in the data: running backs with his tiny snap share have gained about a point a game from one season to the next, but he starts from essentially nothing. Hold him only if your league is deep enough that a handcuff behind Gibbs has meaning, and even then we would rather spend the bench spot on upside elsewhere.
