Our read
Written Oct 19, from his facts through last season
Five weeks have gone by and Devin Neal has not played a down. Weeks 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of 2026, all did-not-plays, and the injury report has shown no designation since before week 1 of 2026. That is not a man rehabbing. That is a staff with Kellen Moore and Doug Nussmeier back from last season, the same voices as 2025, and they still have him listed fifth among the New Orleans running backs behind Travis Etienne, Alvin Kamara and Kendre Miller. Before the season our projection gave him just 2 expected games, and so far he is running ahead of nothing.
Even his 2025 body of work argues for patience running out. 60 points across 9 games, 6.7 a week, one game over 15 points and a worst week of 0.1 in week 7 of 2025. He touched the ball 74 times all year, only 6 of them inside the red zone and 2 inside the ten, so the scoring chances were never there. His snap share swung from 17% to 65% within 2025 depending on who was available, which tells you the role was borrowed, never owned.
There is a thin case for holding on. He is 23.1 years old, a sixth-round pick in 2025, and we hold no ADP for him, so in a deep league he costs only a roster spot. Our preseason number was 16 points with a middle range of 3 to 28, and his bye in week 8 of 2026 is still ahead. But every benched week pushes him toward the bottom of that range, and we would rather have a live body. Cut him loose for anyone who actually plays in week 6 of 2026.
