Our read
Written Oct 19, from his facts through last season
Morton has missed weeks 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of 2026 without playing a down, and he was tagged O coming out of week 5. That alone settles most of it. We projected 2 games for him all season with an injury count already baked in, and our 14-point preseason number came from that pace of 7.0 a game. You cannot get reps back that were never coming in the first place. Even in our full range, the high end sits at 47 points, and none of it arrives while he stands on the sideline in street clothes.
What actually decides this for him is who stands in front of him. He is listed third among NE QBs behind Drake Maye, a first-round talent with the job locked down. Josh McDaniels keeps calling plays for Maye, not for a seventh-round rookie developing on the sideline. Our board has him QB73 and 526 overall, with only 4 players left in his tier before a 1.4-point cliff, and we hold no ADP for him at all. That tells you where he sat in the conversation before a single week unfolded.
There is a narrow world where he matters: Maye gets hurt and Morton is one snap from the field on a team that won 14 games last season. Outside of that, he scores you nothing. Five weeks of not playing means the 14 points we gave him are slipping away, and there is nothing he can do about it from the sideline. Drop him and keep the spot live, unless you carry a second QB and can stash him behind Maye for the rest of 2026.
