Our read
Written Oct 19, from his facts through last season
Nussmeier has yet to take a snap in the NFL. He sat out weeks 1 through 4 of 2026, the club's bye in week 5 came and went, and he is designated Out heading into week 6 of 2026. That is the whole picture right now, and none of it is the kind that turns around on its own.
The depth chart decides everything for him. He is listed third among KC quarterbacks behind Patrick Mahomes and Justin Fields, with Chris Oladokun behind him. Andy Reid calls the plays himself and has his guy, so there is no scenario where a seventh-round rookie gets on the field while the starters are healthy. We saw only 2 games in him for the whole season before it began, and he has burned four weeks of that without playing a down.
Our preseason number was 14 points, with most outcomes landing between 1 and 26, and he sits QB71 on our board. The full range stretches to 47 on the high end, but injuries are what pull the low end toward zero, and his availability question has already answered itself through five weeks. No ADP was recorded for him before the season, which tells you where drafters had him.
The call is simple. Once you are past week 5 of 2026, a third-string rookie quarterback with no path to playing time is not worth the spot. Cut him loose and put the slot toward someone who can help you for week 6 of 2026.
