Our read
Written Oct 17, from his facts through last season
Emmett Johnson has played all four games and scored no points at the goal line because Kansas City has not given him any chances there. One red-zone touch out of 41 in his games, none inside the ten, and he ranks RB62 among the 65 backs with 20 or more carries and targets. At 4.5 points a game, the touchdowns he was counting on simply have not come.
The role explains it. He is listed second among KC backs behind Kenneth Walker III, and Andy Reid calls the plays himself with a pass-heavy lean, so the rookie's work has come as a change-of-pace catcher, 5 catches for 74 yards and little else. Our preseason number was 74 points for the year, built on 7.4 a game across the 10 games we expected him to play. The weeks he has played are running well under that pace.
Even before the season we liked him less than drafters did. Backs taken around his ADP of 147.2 have finished at about 85.8 points in comparable seasons, and our projection sat 11.5 points below that. He is now underperforming even our low bar. If Walker misses time, the red-zone work could flip to Johnson overnight, and that is the only version of this worth rostering. Until then, bench him in anything but the deepest leagues, and if your waivers carry a live option, we would drop him for it. Watch his goal-line touches in week 6 of 2026, not his snap count.
