Our read
Written Sun 12:01 am Central, for week 6
Jacoby Jones is eighth among Washington receivers on Thursday's depth chart, behind McLaurin, Diggs, Antonio Williams and McCaffrey, and he hasn't taken a snap yet after sitting out the first five weeks of 2026. Monday night at San Francisco brings a 49ers group 13th of 32 against receivers at 29.4 PPR points a game, but no path to playing time. In our rest-of-season order he's at WR174, 434 overall. Bench him and plug in a receiver with a live role.
Written Oct 19, from his facts through last season
Jones has missed every week so far, weeks 1 through 5 of 2026, and there is no injury designation to point at. That is a coach's choice, not a health problem, and a healthy scratch five weeks running tells you where Dan Quinn's staff puts him even before you look at the depth chart, where he sits 8th among Washington receivers behind McLaurin, Diggs, Antonio Williams and Luke McCaffrey.
The 2025 record does him no favors either. One game all season, week 11 of 2025, 3.5 points, a 3.4% target share, zero red-zone touches and a 3.0-yard average depth of target. That is a gadget silhouette at best, and the room got more crowded, not less. Deebo Samuel Sr. and Terry McLaurin combined for 48% of the targets in Washington in 2025, and Washington threw on only 50% of situation-neutral plays while running 33.6 seconds a play, so there were scraps to go around even before Antonio Williams and Luke McCaffrey. Receivers stuck in a jam like his have historically dropped about 0.9 points a game from one season to the next, which shaves an already thin outlook further.
Our preseason number for him was 9.1 points across 2 expected games, and with half the season gone before his first snap, even that modest range looks generous. His bye in week 7 of 2026 is up next, so there is no near reason to hold a roster spot. Drop him. The only reason to keep a name this far down is if Washington's top of the room gets hurt, and even then you are guessing at a role that has never existed.
