Our read
Written Oct 19, from his facts through last season
The path to targets never opened for him and it is not opening now. Lamb and Pickens combined for 46% of the Dallas targets in 2025, Ferguson sits first among the tight ends, and Spann-Ford is the second name on that list behind him. Six targets and three catches through five weeks of 2026 is what that pecking order produces, and with Klayton Adams calling plays for a second straight year there is no new scheme to wait on.
The production has slipped even from a low base. He averaged 1.5 points a game across 16 contests in 2025, 24 points all season, and this year he is at 1.3 through five weeks with three scoreless zeros in there. He cleared the position's weekly median just 3 times in 16 games last season, so 2026 has not broken some reliable pattern, it has continued an unusable one. Our preseason pace for him was 2.7 points a game, and he is under that. Our projection had him at 41 points for the full year, and nothing in these first five weeks argues he gets near it.
Availability is the only thing he has going for him. He has played every week this season, missed no games to injury in 2025, and the training staff has not given him a designation since before the season opened. But a healthy player with no role is still worth nothing on a roster. There are two names left in his tier before a 2.5-point cliff, and none of them matter at TE89. A tight end with no target share, no red-zone work and a blocker's job description does not belong on a team midseason. Move on from him and find someone with an actual path to targets.
