Our read
Written Oct 17, from his facts through last season
The case was always thin, and five weeks of 2026 have made it thinner. He was coming off a real step forward, his points a game up from 6.19 in 2024 to 8.52 in 2025 and a target share that climbed from 11.1% to 16.7%. Our number had him at 86 points for the season, a 5.7 points-a-game pace over the 15 games we expected. Instead he is at 3.1 points a game through five weeks, on 9 targets, 4 catches and 55 yards. Week 2 and week 3 of 2026 were zeros. There is no trend line to lean on here.
Two things decide him now. First, the depth chart: he is listed second among NYG tight ends, behind Isaiah Likely, and no note from the new coaching staff suggests that is about to change. Second, the injury report, which has him Out since before week 6 of 2026 with no return date. So the next stretch is spent waiting on a player whose role was already shrinking under a staff that did not draft or develop him.
The 2025 season did show something, and it is fair to say so. He cleared the position's weekly median in 12 of 15 games, took 14 red-zone touches, and finished TE18 among 137 qualifying tight ends. But target competition was always the problem, with Wan'Dale Robinson and Malik Nabers taking 58% of it between them, and that has not eased. We would not hold a roster spot for him. If Likely misses time, revisit. Otherwise drop him and use the spot on a tight end with a live path.
