Our read
Written Sun 12:01 am Central, for week 6
Sample is on his bye with the Bengals in week 6 of 2026, so he gives a roster that carries him zero points and no lineup decision this week. His next game is week 7 on the road at Baltimore, kicking off Sunday 12:00 pm Central. He's second among Cincinnati tight ends behind Mike Gesicki, and his season sits at 1.5 PPR points a game with 0 touchdowns, with our rest-of-season order listing him at TE57. Find a fill-in for the week, and only keep him stashed if your bench can spare the spot.
Written Oct 17, from his facts through last season
One point five points a game through five weeks of 2026, on five catches and 24 yards, is about as empty as a starting-caliber stat line gets. Week 1 of 2026 gave him 4.9 points and every week since has given you nothing, including two zeros. He has not missed a game, so this is not an availability story. The Bengals are simply not throwing to him.
The usage behind the line backs that up. Last season he played 53.6% of snaps, TE38 among 137 qualifying tight ends, but turned them into a 3.3% target share, TE80 among that same group. When Chase and Higgins took 51% of the targets between them in 2025, there was almost nothing left for a tight end whose average depth of target was minus 0.3 yards, TE122 among 125 qualifying. One red-zone touch all of last season. He is a blocking tight end on a passing team, listed second behind Mike Gesicki, and Zac Taylor calling the plays himself changes none of that.
The shape of his seasons runs the wrong way too: 50.3 points in 2023, 36.5 in 2024, 31.9 in 2025. Our preseason number was 67 points and a 4.5 points-a-game pace over 15 games, and he is running at a third of that. No week he played in 2025 cleared 15 points. There is no version of the next month where he earns a lineup spot, and his bye in week 6 of 2026 arrives before anything could change. Let him go and use the spot on a tighter end with targets.
