Our read
Written Oct 17, from his facts through last season
Two targets in five weeks of 2026. That is what the Cade Stover season looks like on the ground: 0.8 points a game, a goose egg in three of five weeks, no touchdowns. Our preseason number gave him 53 points for the year with a middle range of 37 to 68, and even the generous end of that range assumed a role. There is no role. He is listed third among Houston tight ends, behind Dalton Schultz and Foster Moreau, and Nick Caley calling plays has not changed that a bit.
The deeper problem is that last season never showed a reason to wait. In 2025 he played six games, scored 20 points total, and hit the position's weekly median only three times. The one thing he did well was work near the goal line: 30% of his touches came in the red zone, TE14 among 126 qualifying tight ends, with an average depth of target of 1.9 yards. That is a specialist profile, and specialists need touchdowns, and he has none through week 5 of 2026.
Injury is the one thing he cannot pin this on. He has played every game this season with no designation since before week 1 of 2026, so the empty stat lines are a usage verdict, not a health one. We expected 13 games before the year, but nothing in our projection covered two catches in five weeks. His bye arrives in week 8 of 2026, and it should arrive with a decision already made.
Hold him only in leagues where your bench has room to burn. Otherwise drop him and stop carrying a third tight end who does not run routes. He is 26 and a former fourth-round pick, but in two seasons he has cleared 15 points in zero weeks played.
