Our read
Written Oct 18, from his facts through last season
The number that ends this conversation is 4 targets in 6 games. That is the entire 2026 season for Eric Saubert, 2 catches, 3 yards, and five of his six weeks at exactly 0 points. The 8.3 in week 3 of 2026 looks like something until you remember it came with one touchdown on a year where he has touched the ball twice otherwise.
The role never supported rostering him in the first place. He was second among Seattle's tight ends last season behind AJ Barner, played 39.9% of the snaps, and saw a 2.3% share of the targets on a passing game funneling 52% of it to Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp. Brian Fleury calling plays this year has not changed any of that. Even the red-zone role that looked like his one hook, that 42.9% share of his own touches ranking TE8 in 2025, was built on just 3 red-zone touches all season. He is 32 and in his tenth season, and the decline shows in the efficiency too: yards per target down from 6.9 in 2024 to 4.4 in 2025.
The 2025 season backs it up: he never cleared 3 points in any of his 9 played weeks, and he never topped the position's weekly median once. Our number had him at 45 points for the season, 3.5 a game over the 13 games we expected, and he is under that pace by more than two points a week. He has stayed healthy, no designation since before week 1 of 2026, and that is the only thing going right. With his bye in week 11 of 2026 coming up, there is no roster where he earns the spot. Release him before the bye and stream the position elsewhere.
