Our read
Written Oct 17, from his facts through last season
The case for Ruckert starts and ends with the depth chart, and the depth chart has gone the wrong way. Mason Taylor out-targeted him badly in 2025, taking 18% of the Jets' targets while Ruckert sat around 6%, and now Taylor is listed first, Kenyon Sadiq second, and Ruckert third among the tight ends. Eight targets in five games tells you the role has not grown under Tanner Engstrand, who is back calling plays along with head coach Aaron Glenn.
Week 3 of 2026 is the only week that matters on his line, 14.9 points with the one touchdown he has scored all season. Weeks 4 and 5 of 2026 followed with straight zeros, and outside that spike he has barely crossed two points in any week. His 3.8 a game matches our preseason pace exactly, so this is the player we expected, not a slow start hiding something better. Our projection had him at 57 points for the full season, and nothing through five weeks suggests that was too low or too high. The 2025 record backs it up, 47 points in 14 games, topping the position's weekly median just 4 times, and he never cleared 15 points in any of them.
The one thing working in his favor is that he plays, with no game missed in 2025 or 2024 and no designation since before week 4 of 2026. But availability without touches is just a name on a roster, and with 3 red-zone touches all of last year, the scoring path barely exists. He is only worth a spot in the deepest league on your board, and even there we would rather have the roster spot for a lottery ticket with a clearer path.
