Our read
Written Oct 17, from his facts through last season
Through five weeks he has done his part, played every game and climbed from 6.2 points in week 1 of 2026 to 10.5 in week 5 of 2026, which puts him at 7.9 a game, a hair ahead of the 7.3 a game our preseason pace gave him. The route work agrees. He is averaging 2.8 yards of separation on 31 tracked targets, 29th among 57, and he is pulling 24% of Houston's air yards in his games, 44th among 64. Those are real numbers for a guy listed second behind Nico Collins.
What holds him back is the end zone and the crowd around him. Zero touchdowns on 31 targets, and only a 3% share of Houston's red-zone carries and targets in his games, 59th among 64. That is the same problem as last season, when Collins and Dalton Schultz took 44% of the targets between them and Hutchinson sat at 10.3%, 94th among 239 qualifying receivers. Wideouts in his spot have lost about 0.9 points a game from one season to the next, and his 0.1 yards after the catch below expectation over 16 tracked catches means nothing compounds once he has the ball. His 2025 jump from 1.69 points a game to 6.13 came on volume that stayed second-receiver sized.
Our 102-point projection still has a middle range that fits what he is doing, so this is not a panic week. The bye lands in week 8 of 2026. In a 12-teamer you can find a warmer body for that roster spot. In deeper leagues, hold through the bye and see whether week 5 of 2026 was a step forward or just a good Sunday.
