Our read
Written Oct 19, from his facts through last season
The case starts and mostly ends with where he sits: fifth among Pittsburgh receivers, behind DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman, Roman Wilson and Germie Bernard, with a coach and a play caller both new this year and no track record of favoring him. Four games in, he has 4 targets, 3 catches, 32 yards and one touchdown, and the touchdown is doing all the lifting. His best week of this season was 9.3 points in week 3 of 2026, and he followed it with 1.7 in week 4 and a zero in week 5. That is a fragile way to score, and it has cost players in his spot 2 points a game on average the next season.
The role behind the numbers is thin. Last season he played 16 of 17 games and still finished at 1.1% target share of Pittsburgh's targets, WR205 among 239 qualifying receivers, with one red-zone touch all year. He cleared 15 points in 0 of his 16 played weeks in 2025. This season he has matched that invisibility, and he carries an O designation going into week 6 of 2026 after missing week 1 of 2026.
His crowded target room costs him too: among players in his spot, points a game fell 0.9 on average the next season. We had him at 27 points for the full 2026 season, and even that low number needs games and targets he has not shown. There is no reason to hold him on a roster now, and nothing in the Pittsburgh setup argues otherwise. Release him and look again only if Metcalf or Pittman miss time.
