Our read
Written Oct 17, from his facts through last season
The numbers you need are the last two weeks: 0 points in week 4 of 2026 and 0 again in week 5. Four catches and 65 yards across five games, no touchdowns, and he has gone two straight weeks without a catch worth scoring on. We gave him 42 points before the season, built on a 5.3-point pace over the 8 games we expected him to play, and 2.1 a game is not remotely on that line.
The role never supported the hope. He is listed fifth among Houston receivers, behind Nico Collins, Xavier Hutchinson, Jaylin Noel and Kayshon Boutte, and in 2025 Collins and Dalton Schultz took 44% of the targets between them. Wayne's own 2025 target share was 5.3% with zero red-zone touches, and his one career week of work, week 8 of 2025, was 4 points. The 30% contested-catch rate over weeks 1 to 3 of 2026 is the only genuinely encouraging thing here, and it does not get him targets. The playing history is just as bare. He took the field 1 of 17 weeks in 2025, and the other 16 were healthy weeks Houston simply did not play him, which follows 2023 and 2024 seasons where he played 0 of 17 in each.
What was supposed to be the low end of his range, the one injuries drag down, is arriving through production instead. He has not missed a week and carries no injury designation, so there is no health excuse to wait on, and the bye in week 8 of 2026 is coming. We would let him go and spend the roster spot on a wideout with a path to weekly targets.
