Our read
Written Oct 17, from his facts through last season
The path to targets in Green Bay is closed. Melton is listed fourth among GB receivers, behind Christian Watson, Jayden Reed and Matthew Golden, and last season Watson and Jakobie Keeney-James together absorbed 39% of the targets. His own share in 2025 was 3.0%, WR177 among 239 qualifying receivers, on a 9.8% snap share. Nothing in five weeks of 2026 argues the role has grown: 8 targets, 4 catches, 30 yards, 0 touchdowns.
The scoring lean is the part that ages badly. 24.8% of his fantasy points last season came from touchdowns, and among players in his spot that profile has meant 0.9 points a game falling off the next season. He scored 0 touchdowns in 2025 across 107 receiving yards, and he has scored 0 through week 5 of 2026. He did clear the position's weekly median just 3 times in 13 games last year, and his best week was 11.5 points in week 14 of 2025.
One real mark in his favor: the deep-ball efficiency is genuine, yards per target up from 8.5 in 2024 to 10.9 in 2025, good for WR19 in average depth of target. But a 1.4 points a game pace this season, against our preseason pace of 1.5 over 13 expected games, says the efficiency never gets fed. Fourth on the depth chart in a LaFleur offense with no injuries opening the door, there is nothing to wait for. We would let him go and spend the spot on a receiver with a live path to targets.
