Our read
Written Sep 8, from his facts through last season
The target room is the whole story here. He lands in SF behind a receiver corps already fighting for touches, and the sheet puts that crowd at minus 0.9 a game for him. At 9.5% snap share last year in Atlanta he was barely on the field, and 0 red-zone touches means nothing in his current role suggests a shortcut to points in a new system. He caught 31 receiving yards all of last season, 189th among 228 qualifying receivers, and his best week was a 6.1-pointer in week 8. The books posted SF at 9.5 wins this year, so the team should be fine, it is his share of it that is the problem.
The availability picture does the rest. We expect 3 games, with a real range of 0 to 9 once you account for injury, and last season he sat in street clothes for 10 healthy weeks even when available. He did show one interesting trait: a 15.0 yard average depth of target, WR31, so when he plays it is downfield or nothing. That is a boom-or-bust profile built on a role he does not have.
Our number puts him at 3 points, WR229 overall, and there is no ADP on file because nobody is burning a pick. The tier has 4 players left before a 0.3-point cliff, so you are picking among names this shallow at the very end of the draft. My call: do not draft him. If a WR-needy stretch of the schedule forces a lottery ticket in week 15 at LAC, stream someone with a role. He is a free-agent watch, not a draft pick.
